Dr Bhavesh Shah is a Consulting Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon practising for more than 15 years. He completed his MBBS from Grant Medical College in 2000. He then went on to complete DNB (Ophthalmology) from the Medical Research Foundation (Sankara Nethralaya), Chennai in 2006. He also completed courses – ICO Basic and Clinical Sciences from International Council of Ophthalmology, UK. In 2007, Dr Bhavesh went on to do a research fellowship in Vitreo-Retina from Vision Research Foundation (Sankara Nethralaya), Chennai and in 2010 a Clinical Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship from Medical Research Foundation (Sankara Nethralaya), Chennai
Dr Bhavesh Shah has to his credit a number of publications including
- Ratio of the vitreous vascular endothelial growth factor and pigment epithelial-derived factor in Eales disease.
- Non-drainage scleral buckling with solid silicone elements.
Over his career spanning more than 15 years, Dr Bhavesh Shah has undertaken a few research projects including Rhegmatogenous retinal detachments involving choroidal colobomas, a case report on Eales’ disease associated with multiple brain infarcts, Clinical and visual outcomes in patients with Angioid Streaks
Dr Bhavesh started off his illustrious career at JJ Hospital as a Junior Resident. He went on to join JK Shah’s Eye Clinic and Laser Centre and worked there in multiple positions for nearly 5.5 years. He then joined Elite Eye Hospital as a Consultant Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon and was associated with them for two years. Following this, he worked with BABT Hospital for 3 years and at present, he is with Vimla Dermatological Centre and Eye Hospital as a Vitreo-Retinal Surgeon.
Dr Bhavesh is a strong believer in giving back to society and is involved with a number of community initiatives especially monthly eye camps in Gujarat where he conducts cataract and retinal surgeries for the underprivileged for almost a decade.
Dr Bhavesh is an active member of the ALL INDIA OPHTHALMOLOGICAL SOCIETY and has presented papers on various topics including Ultrasound Biomicroscopy – A Boon for Ocular Trauma. He also created posters on Management of Hypopyon Uveitis, OCT for assessment of Cystoid Macular Edema.
During the course of his education, especially the post graduate courses, Dr Bhavesh was actively involved in making presentations on wide ranging topics viz. Choroidal Vasculopathy, Optic Neuritis, CMV Retinitis, Management of Glaucoma in Developing countries, Phacomatoses etc.
He has attended a number of conferences and aspires to research topics including Ocular Oncology, Management of ARMD and Diabetic Retinopathy at community service level.
